Credentials problem or deployment puzzle or permission problem?

Hi,All:

I had development a reporting service home page for our intranet . And I deployed this home page at "domain.server1" (for example) and my sql server database and reporting service is at another server "domain.server2"(for example). on the "domain.server1" , the Authentication methods is Integrated windows authentication. and on the "domain.server2" , with the reportingservice server properites and home folder, in the "permissions" tab, I had add the "domain.server1$" as system user role. so I can view my report via my home page and it works fine. If I remove the "domain.server1$" from the reporting service, there could be encountered an error "The permissions granted to user 'domain.server1$' are insufficient for performing this operation".

I used

rService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;

in my home page to list the reports. I think this must be a problem, so I change this code as

System.Net.NetworkCredential myCreds = new System.Net.NetworkCredential();
myCreds.Domain = "domain";
myCreds.UserName = "UserName";
myCreds.Password = "Password";
rService.Credentials = myCreds;

and add this "UserName" to a local group "group1" on "domain.server2" , and grant this group "group1" to access the reporting service server. It works fine.

but now , I'm confused how to get the user's information (especially the password infomation , even though encrypted )?

Does any one can give me some feedbacks?

I got the this scenarios a few days ago, after a few day's research.

I found that we must configurate the webServer as a trusted server so it can pass the credentials to the SSRS.

Allow a computer to be trusted for delegation

in the web applcation , we just set the Report viewer control credential like this:

rService.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;

we must configurate the webServer to support the Kerberos Authentication and Delegation

and It works.

Good luck!

Credentials and ReportViewer

I'm building a simple report request page that makes use of the
reportviewer found in the samples. From the web server that hosts
this page, I'd like to impersonate a user to gain access to RS running
on another server. I've not been able to find instructions how how to
do this. It appears that ReportViewer makes use of the RS web service
but does not expose anything that allows passing along credentials.
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious so sorry in advance.Mark,
The ReportViewer sample control doesn't use the RS Web service. Instead, it
uses URL addressibility by firing an HTTP-GET request on the client side
(IFRAME) to the Report Server. This means, that the control requires direct
access to the Report Server. If the default Windows-based security is used,
the Report Server will see the incoming request under the credentials of the
interactive user, so no need of impersonating the user.

Hope this helps.

Creating Template Reports in RS 2005

I am tired of creating reports from scratch that contain essentially the
same elements, i.e. page footer with DateTime printed, page numbering, and
headers with report file names, setting the same margins and grid spacing
EACH AND EVERYTIME I write a report.
I want to create a template report that I can select from the Add New Item
report dialog. You can do this in SQL 2000 with RS 2000. You put the RDL
file into the following directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Report
Designer\ProjectItems\ReportProject
But HOW do you do that in SQL 2005 Reporting Services?
I am stumped... :)
The closest I have come to finding it is in this directory:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio
8\Common7\IDE\PrivateAssemblies\ProjectItems\ReportProject
But I don't think I should be using that folder...
Can any Microsoft Reporting Services Developers answer this question please?
Sincerely,
=-ChrisYou know, sometimes in frustration solutions come to mind... :)
It occured to me that perhaps I was not looking in the right place, so on a
hunch, I did a search for ReportProjectItems.vsdir in Google and came across
Peter Blackburn's book index. I have a copy of Peter Blackburn's book - and
DOH! It shows me what I need to do to get my report templates to show up in
SQL 2005. If the report items are not listed in this file, they do not show
up, whereas in SQL 2000 Report Designer, they did. I also can see I made a
mistake of adding RDL files to this folder without updating the
ReportProjectItems.vsdir file.
Now I am happy!

Creating tables from ASP.

Hi list, i wanto to use an ASP page to create tables from the devolopers
intranet.
Inside Code, i have the following conn string:
set objRS = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
objcon.connectionstring = "Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;User
ID=sa;Password=XXXXXX;Persist Security Info=True;Initial Catalog=master;Data
Source=" & server
I have one string called sqltxt that uses the Create table statement. this
is the execution code: "3704,Operation is not allowed when the object is
closed"
Whats wrong'
Thanks.
objRS.open sqltxt, objcon
response.write err.number & "," & err.description & "<p>"
response.write sqltxt
ObjRS.CLOSE
When i try to execute this, i recieve the message :As a general suggestion, consider using a ADO command object instead of a
recordset object.

Now, i have a doubt.
When the transaction occurs, i use the err.number and err.description to see

From ASP? Of course not. From ADO code, you know that a command executed
successfully if an error was not thrown. If we are talking about VBScript,
you'll have to check for Err.Number right after you execute the statement li
ke
so:
sSQL = "Create Table...
oConn.Execute sSQL
If Err.Number <> 0 Then
..call error handler or do whatever in response to an error...
End If
Set oConn = Nothing
Since we're talking about the creation of the table, if the create table cal
l to
ADO fired successfully, then you should be ok to query against it or put dat
a in
it.

Although Thomas already answered your question, you should really rethink
your approach. Very little good can come from allowing tables to be created
by the application ... why are you doing this in the first place?

Response.write "Ok...

if i try to create the table twice i dont recieve any error messages...
Thanks again!!!!|||Firstly, the system will throw an error if you execute a Create Table statem
ent
and the table exists. You need to be mindful of the *owner* of the table.
Specifically, make sure you prefix the table name with the owner like so:
Create Table dbo.TableName
(
..
)
Otherwise, the table will be created under the user's database name. So you
might get Joe.TableName, Fred.TableName and even dbo.TableName.
Secondly, you need to look at the Errors collection on the Connection object
and
trap the specific error number associated with the a duplicate table name.
Thus..
oConn.Execute sSQL
Select Case Err.Number
Case 0
'do nothing
Case 12344 <-- place the actual error number here
..tell user there was a duplicate
Case Else
..display general error
End Select

Creating SQL statements programmatically from listbox (ADVANCED)

I am creating a page that creates a report based on a dynamically created SQL statement which is created by user input.

Everything is good except for the WHERE section, which is created from values in a list box.

For Example:
lstCriteria.items(1).value = "COMPANY = 'foo'"
lstCriteria.items(2).value = "DAY= 2"

I build my SQL statement with these values like so:
SELECT * FROM POO WHERE COMPANY = 'foo' AND DAY = 2

The problem I am having is when there are multiple values of the same type in the list box. Say:
lstCriteria.items(1).value = "COMPANY = 'foo'"
lstCriteria.items(2).value = "DAY= 2"
lstCriteria.items(1).value = "COMPANY = 'moo'"

My employer wants this to be valid, but I am having a tough time coming up with a solution.

I know that my SQL statement needs to now read:
SELECT * FROM POO WHERE COMPANY = 'foo' AND DAY = 2 OR COMPANY = 'poo' AND DAY = 2

I have code set up to read the values of each list box item up to the "=". And I know that I need to compair this value with the others in the list box...but I am not running into any good solutions.

Any HELP?How about OR like values together?

SELECT * FROM POO WHERE (COMPANY = 'foo' OR COMPANY = 'poo') AND DAY = 2
|||Yes, that would work. But I am looking more at how to extract this data from the listbox to a usable format. I am working on setting the first value (the left(N) characters of the listbox item, which is also a column name) in an array, then inserting the secondvalue, checking if it is in the array, if it is, adding it to the array. If it is not, then adding it to a new array. This way I could loop thought the arrays and create my where statement...but It's just a thought on a whiteboard now.

Any Other suggestions?

Creating report using a loop

Hello everybody

Maybe some of you had faced such kind of problem:
I have to out query results into html page.
Ok. It's more than simple using a cursor. BUT it becomes a problem, when tables have 100 or 200 or more columns.
I mean this:

cursor cur is
select * from table_name;
cur_record table_name%rowtype;

and after that

OPEN cur;
LOOP
FETCH cur INTO cur_record;
EXIT WHEN cur%notfound;
HTP.P('columns: '||cur_record.col1||','||cur_record.col2||'...... .'||cur_record.col259||'...');
END LOOP;
CLOSE cur;

Becomes uncomfortable. And, I think, it should be possible to put into loop. But i cannot find a decision how to realize such thing like
cur_record.col(i)

The other decision could be

TYPE RES_ARRAY AS VARRAY (300) OF NUMBER;

RESULTS RES_ARRAY;
BEGIN
SELECT * INTO RESULTS FROM table_name WHERE condition;

In that table are ONLY numbers.

BUT I receive an error
ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected UDT got NUMBER

As I understand, UDT is User Defined Type...... And all tutorials and Oracle documentations show only examples with UDT.

IS IT POSSIBLE SOME KIND OF SOLUTIONS?

Thanks very much.You would need to look at the DBMS_SQL package. This may get you started:

declare
v_cursor integer := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
v_status integer;
v_desc_tab dbms_sql.desc_tab;
v_numcols number;
v_value varchar2(4000);
v_record varchar2(32767);
v_query varchar2(32767) := 'SELECT * FROM emp';
begin

dbms_sql.parse( v_cursor, v_query, dbms_sql.native );
dbms_sql.describe_columns( v_cursor, v_numcols, v_desc_tab );

for i in 1 .. v_numcols loop
dbms_sql.define_column(v_cursor, i, v_value, 4000);
end loop;

v_status := dbms_sql.execute(v_cursor);

while ( dbms_sql.fetch_rows(v_cursor) > 0 ) loop
v_record := 'columns: ';
for i in 1 .. v_numcols loop
dbms_sql.column_value( v_cursor, i, v_value );
v_record := v_record || ',' || v_value;
end loop;
dbms_output.put_line(v_record);
end loop;
end;

Creating Report Headers or Footers

Hi,
The books online clearly say there is a real difference between Page Headers
and Report Headers. And I think I understand that difference.
The documentation show how to create and update Page Headers, but I can not
find out how to turn on Report Headers and how to update them with header
items.
I have looked through the menus and can not find any references to Report
Headers. How do I do it.
thanks,
hughHi Hugh,
We can not have Report Headers and Footers directly.
In order to get more fine-grained control, you could use conditional
visibility on textboxes in the page header/footer, to achieve the report
header/footer effect. For instance, create a rectangle and set the
Visibility.Hidden expression to
=(Globals!PageNumber <> 1) ' for
report header
=(Globals!PageNumber <> Globals!TotalPages) ' for report footer
Then move all the textboxes for the report header/footer inside that
rectangle.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation. If you have any questions or
concerns, don't hesitate to let me know. We are always here to be of
assistance!
Sincerely yours,

Creating Multiple Charts

Hi,

With Report Builder, I created a basic chart using the chart Wizard..

I am wondering If I can create some 5 charts on a Single Page(Webpage), like a Mini Dashboard.

Can someone please guide me in this regard ?

Thanks in Advance for your help.

Dear Sundar,

Right Click your chart -> Properties -> Filter tab. You need to explore this tab to achieve what you want.

Here's a step by step article to do so.

As per the Article, the author asks us to copy and paste the report , so that we get two Report side-by-side.

He doesnt mention how to copy the report !!!

Any idea how to do this ?

Dear Sundar,

Use the standard windows notion

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V Smile

If you have to display various charts, you will have to shorten the length/width of each and place them side by side. So select one, copy it and paste it besides the other.

Suprotim,

Thanks again for your Reply.

I tried the windows Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V options.

Seems they are not working :-)

Btw, I am doing this in the 'Design Report' Tab.

Any reason why this is happening ?

Creating Local cube Using SQL Server / Analysis Services 2005

I am creating a local cube through a web page and everything is working properly when I am debugging but if I am not debugging, the following exception is returned:

x= Exception:File system error: Error opening file; \\?\C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole DB\MDTempStore_1088_1_fm3by.tmp is not a disk file or file is not accessible.

StackTrace: at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdConnection.XmlaClientProvider.HandleCreateLocalCube(AdomdErrorResponseException ex) at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdConnection.XmlaClientProvider.Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.IExecuteProvider.Execute(ICommandContentProvider contentProvider, AdomdPropertyCollection commandProperties, IDataParameterCollection parameters) at Microsoft.AnalysisServices.AdomdClient.AdomdCommand.Execute()

The role defined for the cube is:

General tab: Read definition

Cubes tab: Access: read

Cubes: Local Cube/Drillthrough Access

Thanks,

Yones

Looks like a problem with security. Make sure the process you running within IIS has sufficient privileges to create a files local cube files.

Hi Edward,

Yes, it seems like it is a security problem. I have just found that it is working properly when using AS 2005 installed with (local) SQL server 2005 but it does not work with a named instance such as (ServerName\SQLServerInstanceName)

Could please be more specific about what privileges should be given?

Thanks,

Yones

Not sure how named instance plays the role here.

Are you talking about SQL Server relational engine named instance or about Analysis Server named instance here?

If it is working with default instance, try and see what are the differences in the way named instance is setup.

There should be a little difference in the way you work against named instance.

Hi Edward,

Concerning named instance (MachineName\InstanceName) and default instance ((local)), I think if we have a named instance, it is for both SQL Server relational engine and Analysis Services. I do not think we can have a named instance for SQL Server relational engine and a default instance for Analysis Services (Please correct me if I am wrong)

It is working for the default instance (local) because the Web Server (IIS) and Analysis Services are on the same machine but for a named instance (MachineName\InstanceName), it is not working even the “MachineName” is the same for the Web Server (IIS)

Thanks,

Yones

Creating Dyanmic Reports

Hi,
Iam Using Sql reporting services 2000, I am running a report using a report viewer in a .aspx page every thing works fine except the print button, is is not displayed in the report viewer toolbar. any reason why is behaving so? Another main Issue is I want to create reports dynamically i.e. I'll will only one .rdl file(physical file) in which I want to display employee information, customers info or orders info from the respective table as per the users request. like if he wants to see emp info he'll click a button to load the emp records in the report and vice versa. First I want to know is it possible to do so if yes how can I achive this.
feel free to ask any doubts if you dont understand the scenerio.

Youcould do it dynamically but strongly suggest against such a design especially for three entities that are some far from each other such as employees, orders and customers. I cannot see a useful purpose.|||ADONIS -
Yes you can do!
But be aware as with any application developed "security" is number 1 -
So if you have a couple of "layers" that ensure authentication of the user - then "go for it" as well as ensuring there is some sort of encryption "over" the fields you do not want anyone to see! And since you are already writing ASP.NET there are a couple of hundred routines that will encrypt you data prior to the write and unencrypt after the select
Also, for your printing problem have you installed SP2 of MSRS?
SP2 of MSRS provides for intranet "wide" printing!
Best Regards
|||Hi,

Creating custom merge profile

You can also in the Create Publication Wizard, select
Yes, minimize the amount of data on the Optimize
Synchronization page (@.keep_partition_changes = true),
and consider if column-level tracking is appropriate for
the business needs.
The timeout parameterss are usually adjusted only when
timeouts are an issue, and won't optimize your process.
